UUMOC and CUC deplore acts of violence against Jews in Montreal

On behalf of the Canadian Unitarian Council and the Unitarian Universalist Ministers of Canada, we condemn the recent acts of vandalism against Jewish institutions in Montreal. We are committed to a society based on mutual respect, where people are free to express themselves and practice their beliefs, provided those expressions do not endanger or harm others.

February 20, 2010, to the Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada

The Unitarian Universalist Ministers of Canada (UUMOC) are concerned that your plans to close Canada's prison farms are proceeding too quickly, without sufficient public consultation.  Specifically, it comes to our attention that the process of shut down has already begun, plans for planting have been discontinued, and the sale of valuable dairy herds is imminent.  Closure of the farms will reduce access to rehabilitation and training for inmates in Canada's prison system.
